Guinea pigs

Today Mrs.Lumb and her daughter brought in their guinea pigs, Barnabas and Bartholomew to visit our classroom. They are Texel guinea pigs which have a long coat that flows back over their body.Their coat is so distinctive because of its curls. The Texel guinea pig originated in England in the 1980s when a Silkie guinea pig was crossed with a Rex guinea pig.

Mrs.Lumb showed us how to groom and trim the coat of this breed of guinea pig.

We enjoyed stroking their soft coat and feeding them some grass and small pieces of fruit and vegetables.

This week we are going to explore the topic of pets.

Smithills Open Farm Trip

We thoroughly enjoyed our trip to Smithills Open Farm in Bolton. The children encountered a whole range of farmyard favourites as well as some unusual pets!

The children enjoyed their ride on a donkey.

The farmer showed the children how the cows are milked in the milking shed.

It was an action packed day enjoyed by all!
