Goldilocks

A letter has been delivered to our class from the Forest Fairies. We read their message. 

It said:

So, we decided to set off to Forest School to investigate.

 

When we arrived in the forest, we discovered that there had been an incident indeed! We found an upturned red chair, a pair of red shoes, 3 bowls, 2 spoons and porridge oats scattered all over the ground and in two of the bowls.

‘There is a red chair that has fallen over. Remember in the story of Goldilocks the chair breaks,’ commented Lorimer.    

‘There is porridge on the floor,’ added Rosa.

‘I know who makes porridge. Goldilocks and the three bears,’ said William Yates.

‘It might be Goldilocks because there are three bowls, added Evelyn.

‘There is a large bowl, a medium sized bowl and a small bowl. A daddy one, a mummy one and a baby one,’ explained Jack.

‘The little bowl is nearly empty. Goldilocks has eaten it,’ commented Rowan.

The trail of porridge oats on the ground gave us the idea of making our own tracks and trails.

Back in class we drew maps and plans of the clues we found in the forest.

We have written to the fairies to let them know what clues we have found, and who we think has been in the forest. We also decided to design and make ‘wanted ‘posters to put up around school and in the forest to help track down Goldilocks.

On the theme of Goldilocks we decorated our classroom door to reflect this familiar story.

We have really enjoyed our story times this week, with parents and grandparents, to help us celebrate ‘World Book Day 2016’.

We wish all mums a very ‘Happy Mother’s Day,’on Sunday.

The Three Little Pigs

This week we have been identifying and naming 3D shapes with Mrs. Warran. We have been constructing 3D shapes, to help us understand and recognise their properties. We had to really concentrate and persevere as we assembled 3D shapes from their nets. We were delighted with our results. 

At Forest School we found Rupert the wolf’s tail stuck in a tree. Ariana suggested we should venture down in to the forest to look for more clues, to see if Rupert has been living there. And guess what we did!  Ariana found some squishy mud and commented: ‘I think Rupert walked through this mud and then went into our classroom and left his muddy paw prints on the table!’ 

However, we think Rupert has been living there with someone else. We found a pile of sticks, a stick house, some pig footprints and a brick. So, we think the friendly wolf has been living with the 'Three Little Pigs'.

In class we worked collaboratively to build our houses and tested their strength with the huff and puff of the wolf (Mrs. Warran’s hair dryer). This was very interesting! As we predicted the straw house was blown over and the brick house stood firm.

It's a wolf!

We have been keen to share our bird watching experiences following the ‘RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch’. We are so good at identifying different species of birds now. Lorimer spotted two dippers by the river in Uppermill the other day. Mrs. George was very excited when she spotted a tree creeper in her garden. We are waiting for the birds to get active soon, when it is time to build their nests.

The strong winds have swept a visitor into our classroom. On Monday morning we found leaves, straw and sticks scattered all over the floor. On one of the tables we found some large muddy paw prints and scraps of fur. Who could it be? After a discussion and looking closely at the evidence we think it was a wolf! Through sustained and critical thinking floor mat time, with Mrs. Warran, we shared our knowledge and understanding about wolves and formulated questions to ask, to further our learning.

On Tuesday, to our amazement a real wolf entered our class. His name was Rupert . He had travelled all the way from North America. He was a little sad, because he had lost his tail and wondered if we had seen it.  We hadn’t seen his tail. We asked him lots of questions which we had generated earlier, to further our knowledge and understanding of wolves. He shared lots of key facts about wolves with us. He told us about a wolf called Roger who liked to eat pigs. Thankfully Rupert was an old friendly wolf. We took him outside to play ‘What’s the time Mr. Wolf?’ We had lots of fun.

We have enjoyed participating in the drama and musical performance of the story of ‘The Three Little Pigs’, with Mrs.Warran.

We have been learning to sew this week. We have been involved and concentrating trying to master this skill!
